If you need to use a University of Strathclyde degree certificate, transcript, or student document overseas, the safest approach is to choose the right verification and legalisation route from the start.

The University of Strathclyde is a UK government-recognised degree-awarding university based in Glasgow. For overseas use, the process is often more than simply showing the original document. Depending on the receiving authority, you may need verification, solicitor authentication, solicitor certification, UK apostille, and in some cases embassy legalisation or attestation.

Verification routes for University of Strathclyde documents

1. HEDD Verification

For third-party degree verification, University of Strathclyde is listed by HEDD as an exclusive partner, and HEDD states that degree verifications are obtained exclusively through the HEDD system. HEDD also states that a signed candidate consent form must be uploaded, and that its online degree data verification can check whether a candidate is a current or past student, the award, grade, and attendance dates.

2. University of Strathclyde Student Verification Portal

A second route may be available through the University of Strathclyde Student Verification Portal for eligible students or graduates. The University explains that the portal allows users to access and view digital certificates, print a copy from the preview screen, confirm details using the QR code, and create connections with third parties so they can log in and view the qualification for authenticity verification. The University also notes that printed copies from the preview screen are unverified and watermarked. Graduates from 2020 onwards can access digital certificates through this portal.

Solicitor authentication and solicitor certification

This is where many cases go wrong.

A receiving authority may ask for a document to be “certified,” but the real issue is often whether the document has been checked against a credible source first. A weak certification simply says that a solicitor has seen a printout presented by the client. That wording is often too thin for serious overseas use.

At Ginkgo Advisory, we aim for a stronger route where appropriate. We do not just certify that a document is a copy or printout shown to us. We can build the certification around an authenticity verification step first, using the available verification route, such as:

  • HEDD verification
  • University of Strathclyde Student Verification Portal shared document route

That means the certification can reflect a more robust review process, rather than a bare statement that this is merely a copy presented to the solicitor.

UK Apostille and embassy legalisation

Once the document has been properly prepared, the next step may be the UK apostille from the FCDO. If the destination country also requires consular processing, the document may then need embassy legalisation or attestation after apostille.

At Ginkgo Advisory, we can assist with:

  • reviewing the correct route before you start
  • solicitor authentication and solicitor certification
  • certification that follows an authenticity-checked route where appropriate
  • fast UK apostille
  • 2 working days UK apostille in suitable cases
  • embassy legalisation / attestation for countries that still require it

How Ginkgo Advisory can help

Ginkgo Advisory helps clients handle University of Strathclyde documents for overseas use from start to finish.

We can help you:

  • identify whether HEDD or the Student Verification Portal is the better starting point
  • avoid using a weak certification route
  • prepare solicitor-certified documents with stronger supporting verification language where appropriate
  • arrange FCDO apostille
  • arrange embassy legalisation / attestation
  • manage the process quickly and clearly, including urgent cases

The key point is simple: for overseas use, the issue is usually not just getting a document stamped. The issue is whether the document has been put into the right evidential chain before it reaches the apostille or embassy stage.
