If you need to use a University of Lincoln degree certificate, transcript, or confirmation letter overseas, the safest approach is to choose the correct route from the start.
University of Lincoln is a UK government-recognised degree-awarding institution. For overseas use, many authorities do not simply ask to see the original document. They may require verification, solicitor authentication, solicitor certification, FCDO apostille, and sometimes embassy legalisation or attestation.
At Ginkgo Advisory, we help clients handle the full process clearly and efficiently.
Common verification routes for University of Lincoln documents
For University of Lincoln documents, verification may be available through one or more of the following routes:
1. HEDD verification
University of Lincoln degree data verification is available via HEDD. This can help verify points such as:
- whether the candidate is a current or past student
- the award granted
- the grade achieved
- attendance dates
HEDD requires a signed candidate consent form.
2. Obtaining transcripts and confirmation letters from the university
The university can issue:
- transcripts
- confirmation of award letters
- other student confirmation letters in the appropriate cases
You can arrange with the university for the documents to be obtained, and where possible have them sent directly to us for the next stage of certification and legalisation.
3. Direct verification with the university by email
In some cases, overseas authorities or supporting legalisation files may require direct verification with the university by email. Where appropriate, we can coordinate this verification route as part of a wider document review and certification strategy.
Solicitor certification: stronger than a basic certified copy
A key issue is the wording and quality of the solicitor certification.
Some firms or agents simply certify that a document is a printout presented to them. That is a much narrower form of certification.
At Ginkgo Advisory, where appropriate, we aim to provide solicitor certification supported by authenticity verification steps. This may include review of:
- HEDD results
- university-issued transcripts or confirmation letters
- direct university email verification
- document consistency across supporting records
This approach is stronger than a bare statement that a solicitor has only seen a printout. For many overseas use cases, that distinction matters.
Solicitor authentication, apostille and embassy legalisation
Depending on the destination country and receiving authority, the process may involve:
- Verification
- Solicitor authentication / solicitor certification
- UK FCDO apostille
- Embassy legalisation / attestation
We can assist with the full chain.
How Ginkgo Advisory can help
Ginkgo Advisory can assist with:
- reviewing the most suitable verification route for your University of Lincoln document

- coordinating direct university email verification where appropriate
- preparing solicitor certification with stronger authenticity-based wording where suitable

We can also offer a 2 working day UK apostille service in suitable cases.
Important point on older records
University of Lincoln states that it can verify awards from 1993 onwards. Awards before that date were made by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA), and the Open University is now responsible for those records. Older academic records may therefore require a different route.
The university also notes that:
- most transcript and confirmation letter requests are processed within around 2 weeks
- requests for courses completed before 2000 may take longer
- full transcripts for older records may not always be available
- records for older courses or partner institutions may be incomplete due to historic system changes and mergers
