Trinity College of Music was a UK government-recognised institution that gave awards between 1872 and 2005. It merged with Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in 2005 to form Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Ginkgo Advisory can assist with direct qualification verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.

Quick answer

Trinity College of Music qualifications cannot be verified through HEDD.

Verification must be requested directly from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Candidate consent is required. The institution may confirm:

  • former student status;
  • the qualification awarded;
  • the grade or classification; and
  • attendance dates.

The usual route is:

direct Trinity Laban verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required

Direct qualification verification

A verification request should include:

  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • any former name;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year;
  • classification or result;
  • student number, if known;
  • a clear certificate copy; and
  • signed candidate consent.

Historic records may show different institution or awarding-body names. We review the certificate before submitting the request.

Transcripts and replacement certificates

Trinity Laban provides academic transcripts for many former students who graduated from 2003 onwards.

Applicants who completed their programme before 2003 should contact Registry before ordering because transcript availability depends on the records retained.

The replacement-certificate route depends on the award:

  • Trinity Laban can replace eligible diplomas validated by the Conservatoire;
  • degrees validated by City University should normally follow the City St George’s route; and
  • degrees validated by the University of Westminster should follow Westminster’s route.

The awarding body printed on the original certificate therefore remains important.

Trinity College of Music or Trinity College London?

Trinity College of Music higher education awards should not be confused with graded music, drama or language examinations issued by Trinity College London.

It operates its own results-verification service for certificates such as music grades, diplomas, drama awards and English-language qualifications.

We first identify whether the document is:

  • a degree;
  • a conservatoire diploma;
  • a professional music qualification;
  • a graded music examination; or
  • another certificate.

This determines which organisation should verify it.

Solicitor verification and certification

A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.

It does not independently prove that Trinity College of Music or another awarding body issued the qualification.

Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:

  • direct Trinity Laban confirmation;
  • an official transcript;
  • a replacement certificate;
  • confirmation from City St George’s;
  • confirmation from the University of Westminster; or
  • another awarding-body record.

Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.

FCDO apostille

After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the music qualification.

The recommended process is:

qualification verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille

Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only. It excludes university verification, archive searches, transcript production, replacement certificates, delivery and embassy processing.

Embassy legalisation

Documents intended for a non-Hague destination may require further embassy or consular legalisation.

A typical route is:

solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation

The overseas authority may also request an official transcript, verification letter, certified translation or supporting identity document.

What to send us

Please provide:

  • a clear certificate scan;
  • the transcript, if available;
  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year;
  • student number, if known;
  • destination country; and
  • receiving authority’s instructions.

We will identify whether verification should come from Trinity Laban, City St George’s, the University of Westminster, Trinity College London or another awarding body.

Frequently asked questions

Can HEDD verify a Trinity College of Music qualification?

No. Verification must be requested directly from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Can former students obtain a transcript?

Transcripts are available for many graduates from 2003 onwards. Earlier students should ask Registry to confirm whether sufficient records remain.

Who issues a replacement certificate?

The correct organisation depends on the awarding body. Trinity Laban replaces eligible Conservatoire diplomas, while degrees validated by another university normally follow that university’s replacement route.

Is Trinity College of Music the same as Trinity College London?

No. Trinity College London manages separate graded examinations and professional qualifications.

Does an apostille verify the qualification?

No. The relevant institution verifies the academic record. The apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal.

Can Ginkgo Advisory manage the complete process?

Yes. We can coordinate direct verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille, embassy legalisation and return delivery.
