University of Wales, Lampeter was a recognised UK institution whose history dates to 1822. It merged with Trinity University College Carmarthen on 18 November 2010 to form the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. UWTSD now maintains and verifies its academic records.
Ginkgo Advisory can arrange direct degree verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and certification are complete.
Quick answer
University of Wales Lampeter qualifications cannot be verified through HEDD.
Verification must be requested directly from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Candidate consent is required.
The usual process is:
direct UWTSD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required
UWTSD may confirm:
- former student status;
- the qualification awarded;
- grade or classification; and
- attendance dates.
Direct university verification
A verification request should normally include:
- the candidate’s name during study;
- any previous name;
- date of birth;
- course and qualification;
- attendance dates;
- award year;
- grade or classification;
- student number, if known;
- a certificate copy; and
- signed candidate consent.
Requests can be sent to:
The Registry team may request further information before releasing the academic record.
Transcripts and official letters
UWTSD supports graduates of its predecessor institutions, including University of Wales Lampeter.
Available documents may include:
- replacement or copy transcripts;
- confirmation-of-award letters;
- confirmation-of-attendance letters; and
- replacement certificates for eligible awards.
Applicants should contact Registry before paying because the correct service and fee depend on the award and available records.
Older requests may require an archive search. Where a complete transcript is unavailable, a confirmation letter may still verify the award and attendance period.
Replacement certificates
The correct replacement route depends on the awarding body printed on the original certificate.
UWTSD can replace certificates issued by the University or its predecessor colleges. Its published alumni information currently lists a £30 replacement-certificate charge.
Where the document is a separate University of Wales award, the replacement may need to be requested from the University of Wales. That service currently costs £30.
Other possible routes include:
- Pearson for BTEC or Edexcel awards;
- City & Guilds for its qualifications;
- the Open University for CNAA records; or
- another awarding body named on the document.
Solicitor verification and certification
A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.
It does not independently prove that the candidate obtained the qualification.
Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:
- direct UWTSD verification;
- an official transcript;
- a confirmation letter;
- a replacement certificate;
- University of Wales confirmation; or
- another awarding-body record.
Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.
FCDO apostille
After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the academic qualification.
The recommended process is:
academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille
Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.
It excludes:
- university verification;
- archive searches;
- transcript production;
- replacement certificates;
- courier delivery; and
- embassy legalisation.
Embassy legalisation
Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.
A typical process is:
solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation
The receiving authority may also request a transcript, university confirmation letter, certified translation or identity document.
