If you need a degree certificate from Imperial College London for China, Ginkgo Advisory can review the document and arrange the agreed solicitor certification, UK FCDO apostille or UK FCDO e-Apostille service. The enquiry should identify the actual certificate or transcript, its format and the purpose of the submission.
The enquiry may concern a China work permit, employment checks, further study or professional registration. A request for “degree attestation” should be clarified against the actual documents and authentication required. Identify whether the recipient wants the degree certificate, an academic transcript, a Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), a diploma supplement or another official record.
Our Imperial degree certification and apostille service
- Our UK solicitor certification: review the document and available verification evidence, then prepare certification describing the work completed.
- UK FCDO paper apostille: arrange the agreed preparation, physical submission and return of the legalised document.
- UK FCDO e-Apostille: prepare electronic solicitor certification for an eligible record, manage submission and return the completed electronic file.
See our solicitor-certified copy service, UK FCDO apostille service and UK e-Apostille service. Ginkgo Advisory handles the agreed preparation and application; the FCDO issues the apostille.
Imperial certificates, transcripts and official academic records
Identify the awarding body before ordering an Imperial replacement
An older Imperial qualification needs a slightly different records check from a recent award. Imperial\’s alumni document guidance directs graduates with awards before 2007 to the University of London for replacement certificates. Read the awarding body\’s name on the existing certificate and include the graduation year when requesting help. Studying at Imperial does not mean every historic certificate was issued by Imperial itself. This distinction helps a Chinese employer or adviser identify the correct source when checking the qualification.
Use the electronic record without losing its verification features
The Student Records alumni page says graduates from 2020 onwards can access transcripts and Statement of Award letters through the e-documents portal. Older graduates should follow the relevant alumni request route. Keep the certificate and transcript as separate documents: confirmation that a degree was awarded does not automatically provide the subject-by-subject results a recipient might request.
Imperial\’s third-party guidance explains that electronic documents can be shared with employers and other organisations. A recipient may also request access using a document\’s QR code, subject to the student\’s approval. Ask your Chinese contact which email address should receive that access, and retain the original electronic file rather than relying solely on a screenshot.
Agree the physical document package separately
HEDD and Imperial\’s portal provide ways to check academic records. They do not, by themselves, establish which certificate, transcript or certified copy the Chinese recipient will accept. Before paying for document preparation, obtain that recipient\’s written instructions and show the proposed documents to your certification or legalisation provider. Resolve any discrepancy in the awarding body, award date or recorded name before preparing the final package.
Solicitor certification and degree authenticity verification
A certified copy records the comparison undertaken; an academic authenticity check concerns the university record behind the document. Our solicitor can assess the evidence available and prepare wording reflecting the checks actually completed. Any additional university verification should be identified in the agreed scope.
Use the institution’s published document-sharing or verification route where applicable. Provide any required graduate consent and the name and award details recorded during study. A screenshot, an unofficial results printout and a securely shared final record should be identified accurately when sending the file for assessment.
GOV.UK legalisation guidance includes qualification certificates certified by a UK solicitor or notary. Identify any recipient instruction specifying a particular certifier or wording. University certification, solicitor certification and notarisation are different services, even where the same certificate is involved.
Paper apostille or UK FCDO e-Apostille for China?
For the FCDO electronic route, the submitted PDF must be electronically signed by a UK solicitor or notary. A university digital record or scan alone does not fulfil that requirement. We can review the evidence and the proposed certification before identifying whether the electronic route is suitable for the document.
The HCCH Apostille guidance states that validly issued e-Apostilles have the same Convention standing as paper apostilles and must be recognised by Contracting Parties. Electronic form alone is not a basis for refusal. For the intended China submission, clarify how the completed electronic file will be delivered and validated and whether the underlying document satisfies the checklist.
| Service | Result | Point to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Solicitor certification | The agreed certification of the document or copy examined. | Required evidence, wording and any separate authenticity check. |
| UK FCDO paper apostille | A physical document with the attached apostille. | Original or certified-copy presentation and delivery arrangements. |
| UK FCDO e-Apostille | The completed electronic document for digital sharing. | Document eligibility and arrangements for receiving and validating the file. |
A university digital certificate and an FCDO e-Apostille serve different purposes. Keep the completed electronic file intact so its electronic signature can be checked. A printout does not preserve that electronic signature or become a paper apostille. Where a university platform restricts downloads or printing, identify its official sharing options before selecting the preparation route.
Does China still require Chinese Embassy legalisation?
The Chinese Embassy’s Apostille Convention notice explains that, from 7 November 2023, covered UK public documents can be used in mainland China with a UK apostille without further Chinese consular legalisation. The Embassy and Consulates in the UK ceased providing the corresponding legalisation service.
Older checklists may refer to Chinese Embassy attestation or degree legalisation. For a covered document, that former consular stage should not be added automatically. Clarify any outdated instruction alongside the recipient’s current requirements for the academic evidence, language and submission format.
Does the academic transcript need its own apostille?
Ask the employer, institution, professional body or adviser to identify each required document and its treatment. A request for results alongside a certificate does not automatically establish that both documents need the same authentication. Research qualifications and older awards may also have a different type of results record.
Where several documents need authentication, clarify whether separate apostilles are required or whether an appropriately certified set is suitable. Combining files into one PDF does not settle the question. Include every page, explanatory section and existing attachment when sending the records for review.
China work permits, translations and qualification recognition
The official work permit overview published by Beijing lists highest-degree or related qualification evidence and recognises apostille authentication for Convention countries. Read that overview alongside the checklist applicable to the employer, applicant and application stage.
Provide the destination city, intended role and submitting organisation. If instructions mention a Chinese translation, academic recognition, equivalency assessment or professional registration, include that wording. Clarify the content to be translated and who must prepare or endorse it. Those processes are separate from UK solicitor certification and FCDO authentication.
How to arrange the service and obtain a quotation
- Send the records: provide the complete certificate, requested results record, recipient instructions and deadline.
- Review the evidence: we identify the proposed verification, certification and paper or electronic preparation.
- Agree the scope: the quotation should identify the professional work, FCDO charges and delivery or electronic return.
- Certification and submission: once the necessary evidence is ready, we prepare the agreed document and manage the application.
- Receive the completed record: use the agreed return method for onward submission with any other requested material.
The complete timetable depends on record retrieval, verification, preparation, FCDO processing and any physical delivery. A processing estimate for the apostille stage should not be treated as the estimate for the whole service. Tell us where the documents are held and when the final submission is due.
Imperial degree apostille for China: frequently asked questions
Can your solicitor certify my Imperial degree certificate?
We can review the certificate and supporting evidence for suitable solicitor certification. Include the recipient’s instructions so that the wording, document format and any additional authenticity check can be assessed.
Can I use a UK FCDO e-Apostille for China?
Valid e-Apostilles are recognised under the Convention. For your submission, identify the underlying document requirements and how the electronic file will be received and validated. We can review the proposed UK preparation.
Do I need Chinese Embassy attestation after the apostille?
For covered UK public documents used in mainland China, the UK apostille replaces the former consular legalisation stage. Ask for clarification if the checklist still describes the former Embassy process.
Are university verification and an apostille the same service?
University verification concerns the academic record. An apostille authenticates the relevant official signature, capacity or seal in the document chain. Identify which evidence and formalities the recipient is requesting.
Are scans enough, or do you need the original?
A readable scan is suitable for the initial enquiry. The evidence needed for certification depends on the document, verification route and required final format. We will identify what you need to provide after review.
Must both my certificate and transcript be apostilled?
The required document set depends on the submission. Obtain instructions for each record, including whether detailed results are needed and whether they require separate authentication.
Does an apostille guarantee a work permit or academic recognition?
An apostille does not decide academic equivalence, professional eligibility or an immigration outcome. Any recognition, translation or local application requirement should be identified separately.
