ABDO evidence should specify the dispensing or contact-lens qualification and the syllabus followed. The Association publishes different examination resources and directs duplicate-document requests to its examinations team. For a Saudi optical role, retain the exact award title alongside any practical-training record and separate professional registration evidence. An ABDO Level 6 diploma should not be renamed as a bachelor's degree merely because of its qualification-framework level.
For Saudi use: establish which Association of British Dispensing Opticians certificate or qualification is being assessed and why. Apostille, source verification, Mosadaqa, QVP, formal equivalency and professional registration answer different questions. The appropriate route depends on the actual award and recipient; a university-degree checklist should not be applied automatically to every certificate.
Qualification check: The ABDO Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing is not automatically a bachelor's degree; contact-lens qualifications and professional registration are separate.
Identify the qualification and syllabus that produced the record
ABDO’s dispensing-examinations page distinguishes its Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing syllabuses and provides separate guidance for their training and assessment arrangements. An older learner should identify the applicable syllabus when requesting records rather than assuming that the current forms describe the qualification completed.
Record the award title, examination period, training institution and candidate details. The term Level 6 describes a framework level; it does not rename the diploma as a university bachelor\’s award. If you also hold a degree from another institution, keep that certificate and transcript separate. A Saudi recipient may need both, but each should identify its own issuer and achievement.
Request duplicates through ABDO examinations
The dispensing and contact-lens examination guidance direct duplicate or replacement diploma and certificate requests to examinations@abdo.org.uk for a form. The pages warn that certificate printing follows an annual schedule. Check the current arrangements early if a recipient has set a deadline, rather than assuming an immediate replacement can be issued.
Explain whether the original was lost or whether the recipient wants qualification confirmation. Ask what interim official evidence may be available if printing is not immediate, without promising that a particular letter will be issued or accepted. Include the original name and any later name change, and confirm the address and delivery format before ordering from overseas.
Distinguish assessment history from current professional standing
ABDO provides syllabus-specific practical-training and examination resources, including supervised-time and case-record material. These may help identify the nature of the programme, but a blank current form is not evidence of your completed experience. Ask the training institution or examinations team which individual record can confirm the relevant facts.
Keep any professional-registration confirmation separate from the diploma and from ABDO membership. For a Saudi role, ask the recipient which qualification, practical-training and current-status evidence it needs. Where study or assessment occurred overseas or through online theory examinations, state the actual arrangements. A British awarding body’s name should not be used to imply that every component was completed in person in the UK.
Identify the qualification before choosing a Saudi procedure
For ABDO documents, record the complete award title, candidate or learner number, qualification number where applicable, award date and issuing body. Also identify the teaching or assessment centre, country of study and delivery mode. A UK awarding body does not establish that the holder studied in the UK. A centre-issued attendance certificate and a qualification issued by the awarding organisation may be different documents.
The official qualification register helps check an individual regulated award. Recognition of an organisation does not mean every qualification, international product, endorsed course or membership certificate it offers has the same regulatory status. Keep the exact qualification title and relevant dates in the enquiry; current branding may differ from the issuer shown on an older certificate.
An RQF Level 6 diploma and a bachelor’s degree are different awards, as are an RQF Level 7 diploma and a master’s degree. A framework level describes difficulty, not identical content or award size. If a diploma contributed to a later university top-up, keep the separate university degree certificate and transcript available. Progression eligibility alone does not show that the later degree was completed.
Mosadaqa, QVP and equivalency: which applies to this award?
Mosadaqa’s official description includes Diploma and Higher Diploma alongside degree categories. That does not establish eligibility for every UK awarding-organisation qualification. Ask the service or the instructed Saudi recipient whether the exact issuer and award can be submitted, under which category, and what evidence it needs about the course and study mode.
QVP, commonly called the Qualification Verification Programme, is associated with the HRSD Professional Accreditation framework and occupation-related verification. It is distinct from practical skills assessment under SVP. The relevant occupation and application route matter; a certificate suitable for an employer’s training record may not satisfy the qualification requirement for a particular Saudi work visa, work permit or Iqama category.
Formal Saudi Ministry of Education degree equivalency is a separate academic-recognition service. School-certificate assessment and professional registration also have their own purposes. For GCSE, A level or other school examinations, establish whether the request concerns school admission, school-certificate equivalency or another purpose rather than assuming a university-degree route. Where relevant, bodies such as the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) or Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) may request additional evidence. UK professional membership or chartered status does not itself grant a Saudi professional licence.
Are both Mosadaqa and QVP needed, and which comes first?
There is no universal sequence established here for ABDO qualifications. Give the employer or responsible Saudi adviser the exact award, occupation, study country and intended use. Ask whether Mosadaqa, QVP, both, or another check applies, and whether one result is a prerequisite for another. Clarify whether source verification can begin while document preparation is under way. Do not treat an agency’s usual workflow as an instruction applicable to every award.
Do the certificate and transcript or results record both need apostilles?
First establish whether the recipient needs a transcript, unit results, exam history, certified statement of results, verification response or professional-status letter. Some awarding bodies do not issue a university-style academic transcript. A request for a results record does not, by itself, establish that this record needs a separate apostille.
| Question | What to establish for this application |
|---|---|
| Mosadaqa: certificate | Is this exact award eligible, and what certificate and authentication format is requested? |
| Mosadaqa: results record | Which official results document is required, and must that document be apostilled? |
| QVP: certificate | Does the award address the selected occupation’s requirement, and what verification or legalisation is needed? |
| QVP: results record | Is a transcript or another results record requested, and does it need separate certification or apostille? |
Get the written checklist from the organisation receiving the documents. A portal’s upload requirement may differ from an employer, visa office or professional regulator’s later requirement. If two documents are requested, ask whether they may share a certification and apostille or must be handled separately; neither a combined bundle nor separate apostilles should be assumed for every case.
UK solicitor certification and FCDO apostille
Ginkgo Advisory is a London-based legal service provider offering document verification, solicitor certification and UK FCDO apostille services. We review the actual certificate and recipient’s instructions before agreeing the preparation route. Source verification may use the awarding body’s published verification service, a secure digital share or a direct authorised response. HEDD is relevant only where it covers the actual award; it should not be assumed to cover every awarding organisation.
Certification records the solicitor’s statement about the document and any verification performed. An apostille authenticates the relevant signature or seal; it does not decide academic equivalency, upgrade a diploma to a degree or guarantee Saudi acceptance. Clarify whether the recipient wants an original, a solicitor-certified copy or a notarised copy. A foreign teaching-centre certificate should not be described as UK-issued solely because its course uses a UK brand.
Paper apostille or e-Apostille?
Eligible electronic documents may use the FCDO e-Apostille route with the required UK solicitor or notary electronic signature. An issuer’s PDF, digital badge or QR verification page is not itself an e-Apostille. Under the Apostille Convention, a valid e-Apostille cannot be refused solely because it is electronic. Separately, establish the recipient’s submission method and retain the original signed electronic file; a printout or screenshot does not preserve the digital signature.
Saudi Embassy, Cultural Mission and MOFA requests
The Apostille Convention has applied to Saudi Arabia since 7 December 2022. For documents within its scope, an apostille replaces diplomatic or consular legalisation. Saudi Embassy stamping should not be presented as an automatic additional step after every UK apostille. If a checklist mentions the Saudi Cultural Bureau, Cultural Mission or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), establish the purpose of that request. Academic verification, translation and professional assessment remain distinct questions.
Documents and timing for an initial review
Prepare the certificate, available official results, study and assessment details, any separate university award, and the Saudi recipient’s written request. Provide the existing document format rather than altering its issuer, level or wording. Where study was online, overseas, blended or involved transferred credit, disclose that history and resolve eligibility questions before paying for legalisation.
Ginkgo offers express paper apostille in 2 working days and express e-Apostille by the next working day, subject to document eligibility, completed verification and certification, and confirmed service availability. These are apostille-stage targets. Awarding-body responses, replacements, translation, DHL or other delivery, and Saudi verification or visa processing are additional. FCDO checks can extend the timetable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I obtain a duplicate ABDO diploma or certificate?
ABDO directs requests to examinations@abdo.org.uk for the relevant form. Its examination pages note an annual certificate-printing schedule, so confirm current timing and ask what other official confirmation may be available if the recipient has a deadline. Provide the exact dispensing or contact-lens award, syllabus, training institution and examination details to identify the correct record.
Does Ofqual recognition guarantee Saudi acceptance?
No. Check the exact qualification’s regulated status and ask the Saudi recipient whether that award meets the intended purpose. Recognition of an organisation does not establish that every product is regulated, that a diploma is a degree, or that an employer, ministry or regulator will accept it.
Can I use the certificate if I studied at an overseas centre?
Identify the actual awarding body, teaching centre, study country and delivery mode. A UK issuer and overseas study can appear in the same academic history. Ask the relevant Saudi service which category and supporting evidence apply to that exact award before commissioning document preparation; do not assume acceptance or rejection from the UK brand alone.
What if the awarding body does not issue a transcript?
Ask what official results, unit record, exam history or verification statement it can supply, then ask the recipient whether that document answers its request. Do not create your own transcript or describe a membership certificate as an academic results record. The issuer’s available documents and the recipient’s requirements need to be matched.
Can I start without posting my original certificate?
A clear scan or secure issuer document share may allow an initial review. Completion depends on successful verification and the certification format required. Ask which route applies before posting an original or ordering a replacement. A remotely reviewed document does not automatically qualify for an electronic apostille.
Is an Arabic translation required?
Ask the Saudi recipient whether a translation is needed, who may prepare it and whether it should cover the certificate, results record, certification and apostille. Preserve the formal qualification title and awarding-body name. An English-language award does not by itself determine the translation requirement.
Can I reuse an existing apostille or verification result?
Provide the existing document and report details for review. A new employer, occupation, regulator or qualification may change what is requested. Ask whether the existing result covers the present application rather than assuming either that every check must be repeated or that earlier documents are automatically reusable.
Ask Ginkgo to review your ABDO documents
Send an initial enquiry with the awarding body, exact qualification title, award year, teaching or assessment centre, study country and any written Saudi requirements. We can assess the UK verification, solicitor certification and apostille work and provide a quote. The responsible Saudi authority or adviser should confirm the applicable Saudi route and acceptance decision.
