If you plan to use a BPP University certificate, transcript, or award confirmation overseas (visa/immigration, employment screening, professional registration, banking KYC, embassy filings), this workflow usually gives the cleanest, lowest-risk result:

A. Verify authenticity via BPP’s Verification Portal (connection access)
B. UK solicitor certification that matches the portal verification trail
C. FCDO Apostille (UK Apostille)
D. Embassy legalisation (only if your destination country requires it)

In this post, we focus on BPP’s portal-based verification as the primary verification route. We mention HEDD briefly as an optional alternative.

Why BPP’s Verification Portal is the best first step

BPP runs two connected systems:

  • Student Verification Portal (students & graduates): access e-documents, order reprints, and manage sharing
  • Verification Portal (third parties): employers and education providers verify documents through time-limited access

Most importantly, BPP supports Connections. A Connection lets a third party view your documents inside the portal for a specific period.

Because of this, overseas reviewers often find the story easier to trust:
the document stays “live” and verifiable inside the portal, rather than becoming a detached PDF passed around by email.

How the portal works for students and graduates

These details affect timing and the evidence you can produce:

  • If you used eModule before: reset your password on the new portal using “Forgot my password”.
  • Use a personal email: you can keep accessing the portal long after graduation.
  • Account approval may be needed: the portal matches your details with BPP’s records (often using SRN + surname). If details don’t match, BPP reviews and approves the account. This can take up to 3 working days during busy periods.
  • Document publishing: you receive an email once your documents are published.
  • First hardcopy certificate: BPP typically sends it free of charge. BPP may also release the hardcopy and e-certificate around 3–6 months after results are released.
  • Replacement certificate: you can order a replacement in the portal (example: £30 and about 7–10 business days).

If you get stuck, BPP’s support contact is awards@bpp.com.

How portal verification works for employers and other third parties

Third parties can verify your BPP award in a controlled way:

  1. They register for the Verification Portal
  2. They request a Connection with you (or you invite them)
  3. After you approve it, they view your documents for a limited time
  4. When access expires, they must ask you to regrant access

Internal line that usually works well with authorities:
Documents are valid when viewed in the Verification Portal, because the portal provides controlled verification access.

Where HEDD fits

HEDD can also offer online degree data verification for BPP in some cases. However, it can have cohort/status limits and consent-form requirements.

So in practice: start with the BPP portal Connection. Then use HEDD only when the receiving party explicitly requests it, or when a screening vendor’s workflow depends on it.

The key legal step: solicitor certification that matches portal verification

Rejections often happen when certification wording suggests:

  • “I only saw a printout / PDF”
  • “I did not verify authenticity”
  • “I cannot explain the source”

If your evidence comes from the BPP portal, your certification should reflect that reality. For example, it can state that:

  • the documents were accessed via BPP’s Verification Portal, and
  • verification relied on connection-based portal access, not a detached file, and
  • the wording is specific about what was checked and what is being certified

That is the real difference between:

  • a basic printout-style certification (often easy to apostille, but also easier to challenge), and
  • an authenticity-led certification aligned with the portal verification logic.

FCDO Apostille (UK Apostille): what it proves

An FCDO apostille confirms the signature/stamp on the certified document matches records held by the UK Legalisation Office.

It does not verify the academic content by itself. Instead, it legalises the signature/stamp on the document presented for apostille.

This is why the solicitor certification step matters so much: it links portal-based verification evidence to a document that can be legalised and used overseas.
