If you need to use a Kingston University degree certificate, transcript, or award-related document outside the UK, it is important to choose the right process from the start.
In many cases, the issue is not only whether the document is genuine, but whether it has been properly verified for authenticity, then prepared in a form suitable for solicitor certification, FCDO apostille, and embassy legalisation or attestation where required. Kingston University appears on HEDD for online degree data verification, and the university also states that third-party award verification requests and Verification of Award letters are available through its own channels.
About Kingston University
Kingston University is a UK government-recognised degree-awarding institution. It is well known for its wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including business, design, engineering, health, science, and the arts. Official UK legislation lists recognised bodies that can award UK degrees, and Kingston University is included within that recognised framework.
When do you need this process?
You may need this route if you are using a Kingston University document for:
- overseas employment
- immigration or visa applications
- professional registration
- further study abroad
- embassy submissions
- legal or compliance purposes overseas
Different countries and different receiving authorities ask for different levels of document preparation. Some will accept a properly certified and apostilled document. Others will also require embassy legalisation or attestation after apostille.
The usual route for a Kingston University document
A strong and practical route is usually:
- Verification of the academic award
- Solicitor authentication and solicitor certification
- FCDO apostille
- Embassy legalisation / attestation if the destination country requires it
Step 1: Verification of the academic award
For Kingston University, there are three practical verification routes.
1) HEDD verification
Kingston University is listed on HEDD for online degree data verification. HEDD states that a signed consent form is required and that Kingston University cannot verify current students through that route. HEDD also states that its online verification can check whether the candidate was a past student, the award given, the grade attained, and attendance dates.
2) Direct third-party verification with the university
Kingston University states that employers, educational institutions, funding bodies, recognised voluntary organisations, and other third parties may request information on a graduate’s educational attainments, subject to the graduate’s permission. The university says it aims to reply to third-party award verification requests within 10 working days, and that a service charge applies.
3) Verification of Award letter
Kingston University also offers a Verification of Award letter (electronic version only). The university states that this letter can confirm the graduate’s name, award title, classification, date of award, mode of study, and the start and end date of the course. The university also notes that this letter supports other award documentation and does not carry the same official standing as a certificate or diploma supplement.
Step 2: Solicitor authentication and solicitor certification
Once the degree or award information has been properly verified, the next step is solicitor authentication and solicitor certification.
This step matters because many receiving authorities do not want a weak certification that merely says a document is a printout shown to the solicitor. A basic “certified true copy” alone is often not the strongest route where authenticity matters.
At Ginkgo Advisory, we aim for a stronger approach where appropriate. That means the solicitor certification is prepared with an authenticity verification element, based on the supporting verification path available for the Kingston University document.
This is an important distinction.
We are not positioned like agents or solicitors who merely use generic wording such as a statement that the attached pages are printouts presented to them. Where the case allows, we build the certification around a clearer verification trail first, then certify the document in a form better suited for apostille and overseas use.
Step 3: FCDO apostille
After solicitor certification, the document can usually proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office apostille.
The apostille confirms the authenticity of the UK signature on the document, such as the solicitor’s signature. It is often required when the document will be used in another Hague Convention country.
At Ginkgo Advisory, we can offer a fast UK apostille service in as little as 2 working days, subject to the document being suitable for that route.
Step 4: Embassy legalisation or attestation
If the destination country requires more than apostille, the document may need to go on to the relevant embassy or consulate for legalisation or attestation.
This often applies where the receiving country is not relying solely on the Hague Apostille Convention, or where the specific authority asks for an embassy-level legalisation chain.
How Ginkgo Advisory can help
At Ginkgo Advisory, we help clients handle the full process for Kingston University documents, including:
- reviewing the right verification route
- arranging or guiding HEDD verification where suitable
- handling direct university verification where appropriate
- working with a Verification of Award letter route where suitable
- preparing solicitor authentication and solicitor certification with a stronger authenticity-focused approach
- arranging fast FCDO apostille within 2 working days
- arranging embassy legalisation / attestation where required
We focus on building a document chain that is clear, credible, and suitable for overseas use.
Why the right route matters
The wrong route can waste time.
If a document is certified too loosely at the start, it may still be rejected later by the receiving authority, employer, university, regulator, notary, or embassy. A better route is to begin with a proper verification path, then move to solicitor certification, apostille, and legalisation in the correct order.
That is usually the safer and more professional approach.
