Qatar Embassy Attestation in London for UK Documents

UK documents intended for official use in Qatar normally require legalisation in the following order:

1. UK FCDO Apostille
2. Attestation by the Consular Section of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London

Additional certification, notarisation or Chamber of Commerce attestation may be required depending on the type of document.

Consular Fees

The current Qatar Embassy consular fees are:

• Private documents: £22 per document
• Commercial documents: £33 per document
• Certificate of Incumbency: £22 per certificate
• Commercial invoices: The fee is calculated according to the declared invoice value

Commercial invoices are therefore not charged at the standard commercial-document rate.

Processing Time

The current estimated processing time for Qatar Embassy legalisation is approximately 12–20 working days.

This is an indicative timeframe only and may be extended if the Consular Section requires additional information or supporting documents.

Submission Method

The Consular Section currently accepts the submission and return of documents by post only.

Foreign-Issued Documents

Foreign-issued documents are generally not accepted by the Qatar Embassy in London.

Exceptions may apply to documents issued in:

• The Republic of Ireland
• Norway
• Iceland
• Jersey
• Guernsey
• The Isle of Man
• British Overseas Territories

The applicable preparation requirements differ according to where the document was issued.

Republic of Ireland, Norway and Iceland

Documents issued in these countries must first be authenticated by the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs or competent authority in the country of origin before being submitted to the Qatar Embassy in London.

Crown Dependencies

Documents issued in Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man may be submitted directly to the Qatar Embassy in London after they have been Apostilled by the competent authority in the jurisdiction of origin.

British Overseas Territories

Documents issued in a British Overseas Territory must:

1. Be Apostilled in the territory of origin;
2. Be further Apostilled by the UK FCDO; and
3. Be submitted to the Qatar Embassy in London for consular legalisation.

Commercial Documents

Certain commercial and trade documents must be attested by both the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce before submission to the Qatar Embassy.

These documents may include:

• Certificates of Origin
• Commercial invoices
• Packing lists
• Bills of Lading
• Certificates of Goods
• Other export or trade documents

The applicable consular fee for an invoice may depend on the invoice value.

Bundled Documents Are Not Accepted

Documents notarised, certified or Apostilled together as a bundle are not accepted under any circumstances.

Each document must be:

1. Certified or notarised separately, where required;
2. Apostilled separately by the UK FCDO; and
3. Submitted for Qatar Embassy legalisation as an individual document.

Educational Documents

For the legalisation of a UK educational qualification, the following three documents must be submitted together:

1. Degree certificate or diploma
2. Academic transcript
3. A cover letter issued by the awarding educational institution

The institution’s cover letter must confirm all of the following:

• The authenticity of the certificate and qualification;
• The mode and type of study, including whether the course was full-time, part-time, distance learning, e-learning or face-to-face;
• The place where the studies were undertaken;
• The place where the examinations were held;
• The full title and level of the qualification awarded, such as a BA, BSc, Master’s degree or Doctorate;
• The total duration of the course; and
• The actual dates of study, including the start and completion dates.

Separate Certification and Apostilles

The degree certificate or diploma, academic transcript and institutional cover letter must each be:

1. Certified separately by a UK solicitor or notary public;
2. Apostilled separately by the UK FCDO; and
3. Submitted together to the Qatar Embassy for legalisation.

An Apostille covering the educational documents as a bundle will not be accepted.

Previously Legalised Educational Documents

Where a degree certificate or academic transcript has previously been legalised, a copy of the previously legalised document must be submitted with the new educational document requiring legalisation.

Distance-Learning Qualifications

Qualifications obtained through distance learning, online study or an e-learning programme will not be accepted for legalisation, as this does not comply with the applicable requirements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha.

Certificate of Good Health

A Certificate of Good Health for use in Qatar may be obtained online through ZoomDoc.

The certificate should be checked carefully to ensure that it meets the requirements of the receiving authority in Qatar before legalisation begins.

Method of Payment

The Qatar Embassy accepts payment by:

• Company cheque
• Postal order

Other payment methods are not accepted.
