Trent Polytechnic was a UK government-recognised institution that gave awards between 1970 and 1988. It became Nottingham Polytechnic in 1988 and Nottingham Trent University in 1992. Nottingham Trent University now verifies its qualifications.

Ginkgo Advisory can assist with HEDD degree verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and certification are complete.

Quick answer

Trent Polytechnic qualifications can be verified through HEDD.

The usual route is:

HEDD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required

Nottingham Trent University is an exclusive HEDD partner. Third-party verification requests must therefore be submitted through HEDD.

The current degree enquiry fee is £14.

HEDD degree verification

HEDD can check:

  • current or former student status;
  • the qualification awarded;
  • the grade or classification; and
  • attendance dates.

The candidate must provide a signed consent form as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF.

Nottingham Trent University may not hold exact start and end dates for awards made before 2004. Therefore, a Trent Polytechnic verification may confirm the award without giving precise attendance dates.

Transcripts and verification letters

Former students can request a transcript directly from Nottingham Trent University.

Pre-2004 graduates cannot use the University’s electronic Higher Education Achievement Report system. They may instead request a paper or PDF transcript from the transcript team.

NTU also offers a verification letter confirming:

  • attendance dates;
  • the course studied; and
  • qualifications achieved.

The current verification-letter fee is £14. NTU aims to provide the letter within five working days, although an older record may require further checks.

Replacement certificates

The replacement route depends on the award date.

For undergraduate or postgraduate awards obtained in 1992 or earlier, applicants must apply through the Open University for a certificate-style pro forma document. The current fee is £60.

BTEC or Edexcel qualifications may require a separate replacement request through Pearson.

The exact awarding body shown on the original certificate should be checked before ordering a replacement.

Solicitor verification and certification

A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.

It does not independently prove that the candidate received the qualification.

Our enhanced service reviews the academic document against reliable evidence, such as:

  • a HEDD result;
  • an NTU verification letter;
  • an official transcript;
  • an Open University replacement document; or
  • another awarding-body record.

Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.

FCDO apostille

After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the academic qualification.

The recommended route is:

academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille

Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only. It excludes HEDD processing, university record searches, transcript production, replacement documents, delivery and embassy legalisation.

Embassy legalisation

Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.

A typical process is:

solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation

The overseas authority may also request an official transcript, verification letter, certified translation or identity document.

What to send us

Please provide:

  • a clear scan of the certificate;
  • the transcript, if available;
  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • award year;
  • classification;
  • attendance dates, if known;
  • student number, if available;
  • destination country; and
  • receiving authority’s requirements.

We will identify whether the correct route involves HEDD, Nottingham Trent University, the Open University or another awarding body.
