Legal Consultant of Ginkgo Advisory
Trinity University College was a recognised UK higher education institution in Carmarthen. It merged with the University of Wales Lampeter in November 2010 to form the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. UWTSD now maintains its academic records.
Ginkgo Advisory can assist with direct degree verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and certification are complete.
Quick answer
Trinity University College qualifications cannot be verified through HEDD.
Verification must be requested directly from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Candidate consent is required. UWTSD may confirm:
- former student status;
- the qualification awarded;
- grade or classification; and
- attendance dates.
The usual route is:
direct UWTSD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required
Direct university verification
A third-party verification request should normally include:
- the candidate’s name during study;
- any previous name;
- date of birth;
- course and qualification;
- attendance dates;
- award year;
- student number, if known;
- a certificate copy; and
- signed candidate consent.
Requests can be directed to UWTSD Registry at registry@uwtsd.ac.uk. The University may request further information before disclosing the academic record.
Check the awarding body
The name printed on an older certificate is important.
Trinity University College obtained taught degree-awarding powers in 2008. Earlier degrees may have been awarded by the University of Wales or another validating body.
A historic document may name:
- Trinity College Carmarthen;
- Trinity University College;
- University of Wales;
- BTEC or Edexcel;
- City & Guilds;
- CNAA; or
- another awarding organisation.
The awarding body may determine who can issue a replacement certificate.
Transcripts and official letters
UWTSD can provide replacement or copy transcripts, confirmation letters and certificates where it holds the relevant records.
A confirmation letter may state:
- the qualification obtained;
- the award date;
- the result or classification; and
- attendance dates.
The University advises applicants to contact Registry before paying for a replacement transcript, letter or certificate.
Replacement certificates
UWTSD can replace certificates issued by the University or its predecessor colleges, subject to its conditions.
Where another organisation issued the original certificate, the replacement must normally come from that awarding body. For example:
- University of Wales award: University of Wales;
- BTEC or Edexcel: Pearson;
- City & Guilds: City & Guilds;
- CNAA: Open University Awards and Aftercare.
UWTSD may provide a confirmation letter where a replacement certificate is unavailable.
Solicitor verification and certification
A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.
It does not independently prove that the candidate obtained the qualification.
Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:
- direct UWTSD verification;
- an official transcript;
- a confirmation of award letter;
- a replacement certificate;
- University of Wales confirmation; or
- another awarding-body record.
Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.
FCDO apostille
After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the academic qualification.
The recommended route is:
academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille
Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only. It excludes university verification, archive searches, document production, courier delivery and embassy processing.
Embassy legalisation
Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.
A typical route is:
solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation
The receiving authority may also request a transcript, official university letter, certified translation or identity document.
What to send us
Please provide:
- a clear certificate scan;
- the transcript, if available;
- the candidate’s name during study;
- course and qualification;
- attendance dates;
- award year;
- student number, if known;
- destination country; and
- receiving authority’s requirements.
We will identify whether verification should come from UWTSD, the University of Wales or another awarding body.
Frequently asked questions
Can HEDD verify a Trinity University College qualification?
No. Verification must be requested directly from UWTSD.
Who now holds the records?
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is the successor institution following the 2010 merger.
Can former students obtain a transcript?
Possibly. UWTSD provides replacement or copy transcripts and confirmation letters where sufficient records remain.
Who issues a replacement certificate?
The awarding body printed on the original certificate determines the correct route.
Does an apostille verify the qualification?
No. UWTSD or the relevant awarding body verifies the academic record. The apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal.
Can Ginkgo Advisory manage the complete process?
Yes. We can coordinate direct verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille, embassy legalisation and return delivery.
