Physical Documents Are Still Required
Although the UAE attestation process is digital, you still need to provide the physical original document.
MoFA and the UAE Embassy use the physical document to issue the digital attestation. After the process is complete, you receive the digitally attested document by email, and the original document is returned to you.
Step 1: Log in to the MoFA Website
First, log in to the MoFA website using UAE Pass.
Then, go to the Services tab and select the Attestation Service.
Step 2: Select the Country
Next, select the country where the document was issued.
For documents issued in the United Kingdom, choose UK.
This step is important because the country of issue decides the correct attestation route.
Step 3: Submit the Application
After that, complete the digital application form.
Once the form is complete, proceed to payment.
Step 4: Document Collection
After payment, a MoFA-approved service provider will contact you to arrange collection of the original documents.
The service provider will give you an air way bill number and a pick-up schedule.
If your address is incomplete, they will contact you for the missing details.
Step 5: Prepare the Documents for Collection
You must print the air way bill and attach it to your documents.
Then, make sure the documents are ready for collection by the courier partner.
You will receive status updates by email during the different stages of the application.
Step 6: Digital Attestation Issued
Once the attestation is complete, you will receive an email with a digitally attested copy of your document.
The document will be digitally attested by the UAE Embassy and by MoFA.
This digital document is then ready for use within the UAE.
Step 7: Original Documents Returned
After completion, your original documents will be returned to you through the service provider.
You will receive an email notification with the scheduled delivery date.
You will also receive an air way bill number so you can track the return delivery.
What Happens If Your Documents Do Not Meet the Requirements?
If your documents do not meet the required terms and conditions, the application will be rejected.
In that case, the attestation fee will be refunded automatically.
However, the service fee, including delivery, will not be refunded.
Your original documents will still be returned to you.
You can submit the documents again once they meet the required terms and conditions.
Can You Send Non-UK or Non-Icelandic Documents to the UAE Embassy in London?
No. Non-UK and non-Icelandic documents must go to the UAE Embassy or UAE Consulate in the relevant country.
Therefore, you should not send documents from other countries to the UAE Embassy in London unless the Embassy’s rules allow that route.
How Ginkgo Advisory Can Help
Ginkgo Advisory helps clients prepare UK documents before applying for UAE digital attestation.
For UK-issued documents, we can assist with:
Solicitor authentication
Authenticity verification
Solicitor certification
FCDO apostille
2 working day UK apostille service, where suitable
Preparation before MoFA and UAE Embassy digital attestation
Our role is to help ensure the UK document is properly prepared before it enters the UAE digital attestation process.
Where appropriate, our solicitor certification goes beyond a basic “certified true copy”. We can verify the authenticity of the document with the issuing body, official source or accepted verification platform before certification.
This helps reduce the risk of rejection, delay or weak certification wording before the document moves to FCDO apostille and UAE digital attestation.
Key Takeaway
The UAE digital attestation process starts online, but the physical document is still required.
You apply through the MoFA website, pay online, prepare the air way bill, send the original document through the approved service provider, and then receive the digitally attested document by email.
For UK documents, proper preparation before submission is essential.
