2. What Is a Decree Absolute?
A Decree Absolute is the older final divorce order in England and Wales.
It usually applies to divorces completed before 6 April 2022.
It proves that the marriage has legally ended.
Pakistani authorities may ask for a Decree Absolute when dealing with remarriage, family registration, inheritance, property, marital status updates, or official court and government filings.
3. What Is a Final Order?
A Final Order is the current final divorce order in England and Wales.
It usually applies to divorce cases issued on or after 6 April 2022.
It performs the same core function as a Decree Absolute and proves that the marriage or civil partnership has legally ended.
For Pakistan, the document name matters less than the preparation route.
The receiving authority usually wants a document that has a clear source, proper solicitor certification, and an FCDO apostille.
4. Why You Should Not Start with Apostille First
Many clients start with the wrong step.
They print the divorce PDF and send it straight for apostille.
That can cause delay.
The better route starts with the document source and format.
A stronger sequence is:
- identify whether the document is a Decree Absolute or Final Order;
- check the court source and case details;
- review whether the document is a PDF, scan, court copy, or older paper order;
- obtain a fresh HMCTS or court copy where needed;

It may only confirm that someone showed a printout to the certifier. It may not explain the source, document format, authenticity review, or link to the UK court-issued record.

However, the practical requirements may still vary.
A Pakistani authority may still ask for:

- identity documents;
- former marriage evidence;
- proof of Pakistani nationality or status;
