University College Falmouth was a UK government-recognised institution that gave awards between 2005 and 2012. It was renamed Falmouth University in December 2012, which now verifies its qualifications through HEDD.

Ginkgo Advisory can arrange HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.

Quick answer

University College Falmouth qualifications can be verified through HEDD.

The usual route is:

HEDD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required

Falmouth University is an exclusive HEDD partner. Third-party degree verification requests must therefore be submitted through HEDD.

The current degree enquiry fee is £14.

HEDD verification requirements

HEDD can confirm:

  • current or former student status;
  • the qualification awarded;
  • the grade or classification; and
  • attendance dates.

The candidate must use the official HEDD consent form. Falmouth accepts:

  • handwritten signatures;
  • Adobe Sign;
  • DocuSign; and
  • freehand digital signatures.

A typed name is not accepted as a signature.

The completed form can be uploaded as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF.

Check the awarding body

Until 1993, many awards connected with Falmouth were made by CNAA. The University of Plymouth then acted as the validating body.

University College Falmouth received taught degree-awarding powers in 2004. Therefore, awards from its 2005–2012 period will generally be Falmouth awards. However, the certificate wording should still be checked before verification or replacement documents are ordered.

An academic document may name:

  • University College Falmouth;
  • Falmouth University;
  • the University of Plymouth;
  • CNAA; or
  • another awarding body.

The legal awarding body determines who can issue a replacement certificate.

Transcripts and official verification letters

Falmouth University supports former students by providing:

  • replacement certificates;
  • replacement transcripts;
  • certified certificate copies;
  • award verification letters; and
  • academic references.

The University currently lists:

  • replacement transcript: £15; and
  • award verification letter: £7.50.

An award verification letter confirms the qualification, classification, award date and attendance dates.

Replacement certificates

Falmouth’s standard £30 online replacement-certificate product is only for students who completed their award after May 2019.

University College Falmouth graduates from 2005 to 2012 should contact the Awards team before ordering:

award@falmouth.ac.uk

The University will confirm the correct route based on the award date and awarding body.

If the certificate was awarded by the University of Plymouth, Plymouth may need to provide the replacement certificate, transcript or award verification letter. Plymouth provides replacement certificates, certified copies, transcripts and verification letters through its own document service.

Solicitor verification and certification

A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.

It does not independently prove that the candidate obtained the qualification.

Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:

  • a HEDD verification result;
  • a Falmouth award verification letter;
  • an official transcript;
  • a replacement certificate;
  • a certified university copy; or
  • confirmation from the University of Plymouth.

Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.

FCDO apostille

After academic verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the academic qualification.

The recommended route is:

academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille

Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.

It excludes:

  • HEDD processing;
  • university document production;
  • archived-record searches;
  • courier delivery; and
  • embassy legalisation.

Embassy legalisation

Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.

A typical process is:

solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation

The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, award verification letter, certified translation or identity document.

What to send us

Please provide:

  • a clear certificate scan;
  • the transcript, if available;
  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year;
  • grade or classification;
  • student number, if known;
  • destination country; and
  • receiving authority’s requirements.

We will determine whether the correct route involves HEDD, Falmouth University, the University of Plymouth or another awarding body.
