Legal Consultant of Ginkgo Advisory
University College, often known as Univ, is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. The University awards and verifies qualifications obtained by University College students.
Ginkgo Advisory can assist with HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.
Quick answer
University College Oxford qualifications are verified by the University of Oxford.
The usual process is:
Oxford degree verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required
HEDD can confirm:
- current or former student status;
- the qualification awarded;
- the grade or classification; and
- attendance dates.
The current HEDD degree enquiry fee is £47.
Oxford consent-form requirements
Applicants must use the University of Oxford Consent to Disclosure form.
The form should name both:
- HEDD; and
- the organisation submitting the request, such as Ginkgo Advisory.
For the HEDD route, Oxford requires a genuine wet-ink signature. The candidate must sign the form using a pen.
Oxford does not accept:
- typed signatures;
- handwriting fonts;
- pasted signature images; or
- non-verifiable electronic signatures.
The hand-signed form may be scanned or photographed and uploaded as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF.
For current students, the request should include the course start year and expected completion year.
What can HEDD verify?
HEDD can check the academic information held by the University of Oxford.
The request should include accurate details, such as:
- the candidate’s name during study;
- University College affiliation;
- course and qualification;
- attendance dates;
- graduation year;
- grade or classification; and
- student number, if known.
The submitted information should match the University’s records.
Short and external Oxford courses
HEDD cannot verify many short or external Oxford programmes. This includes certain Executive Leadership Programmes.
Alternative verification may need to come from:
- Saïd Business School;
- Oxford Lifelong Learning;
- the Department for Continuing Education;
- the course provider; or
- another awarding body shown on the document.
We review the course and certificate wording before selecting the verification route.
Solicitor verification and certification
A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.
It does not independently prove that Oxford issued the document or that the candidate obtained the qualification.
Our enhanced service reviews the academic document against official evidence, such as:
- a HEDD verification result;
- direct University of Oxford confirmation;
- an Oxford eDocument;
- a degree confirmation letter; or
- an official academic transcript.
Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.
This creates a stronger evidence chain than a basic certified true copy.
FCDO apostille
After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the Oxford qualification.
The recommended process is:
academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille
Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.
It excludes:
- HEDD processing;
- Oxford verification;
- document production;
- courier delivery; and
- embassy legalisation.
Embassy legalisation
Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.
A typical route is:
solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation
The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, Oxford confirmation letter, certified translation or supporting identity document.
