Legal Consultant of Ginkgo Advisory

The University of Glamorgan awarded qualifications under that name between 1992 and 2013. It merged with the University of Wales, Newport on 11 April 2013 to form the University of South Wales, which now verifies its qualifications.

Ginkgo Advisory can arrange HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.

Quick answer

University of Glamorgan qualifications can be verified through HEDD.

The usual process is:

HEDD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required

HEDD can check:

  • former student status;
  • the qualification awarded;
  • the grade or classification; and
  • attendance dates.

The current degree enquiry fee is £27.

University of South Wales consent form

The University requires its own student and graduate consent form.

The candidate must sign the form before it is uploaded to HEDD as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF. Using another consent form may delay or prevent verification.

The request should include accurate details, such as:

  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • any previous name;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year;
  • classification; and
  • student number, where available.

University merger and certificate validity

The University of South Wales was formed from the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport in April 2013.

Certificates issued under the University of Glamorgan name remain valid. Former students can also request a free merger letter explaining the relationship between the former institutions and the University of South Wales.

This letter may help where an overseas authority is unfamiliar with the former university name.

Transcripts and official documents

The University of South Wales provides former students with services including:

  • duplicate certificates;
  • academic transcripts;
  • Confirmation of Award letters;
  • Confirmation of Attendance letters; and
  • merger letters.

The University maintains separate transcript guidance for University of Glamorgan study completed between 1992 and 2002 and between 2002 and March 2013.

Document availability depends on the course, award date and records retained.

Solicitor verification and certification

A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.

It does not independently prove that the candidate obtained the qualification.

Our enhanced service reviews the academic document against reliable evidence, such as:

  • a HEDD verification;
  • an official transcript;
  • a Confirmation of Award;
  • a replacement certificate;
  • a merger letter; or
  • another official university record.

Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.

FCDO apostille

After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the underlying academic qualification.

The recommended sequence is:

academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille

Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.

It excludes:

  • HEDD processing;
  • university record searches;
  • transcript production;
  • replacement certificates;
  • courier delivery; and
  • embassy legalisation.

Embassy legalisation

Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.

A typical process is:

solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation

The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, Confirmation of Award, merger letter, certified translation or identity document.

What to send us

Please provide:

  • a clear certificate scan;
  • the transcript, if available;
  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year and classification;
  • student number, if known;
  • destination country; and
  • the receiving authority’s requirements.

We will confirm the correct verification, certification and legalisation route.
