Legal Consultant of Ginkgo Advisory
The University of Wales, Bangor awarded qualifications under that name between 1995 and 2007. Bangor University now verifies these historic qualifications through HEDD.
Ginkgo Advisory can arrange HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.
Quick answer
University of Wales Bangor qualifications can be verified through HEDD.
The usual process is:
HEDD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required
Bangor University is an exclusive HEDD partner. The current degree enquiry fee is £14.
HEDD verification requirements
HEDD can check:
- current or former student status;
- the qualification awarded;
- the grade or classification; and
- attendance dates.
The consent form must be dated within the previous three months.
Bangor University accepts:
- handwritten signatures;
- Adobe Sign;
- DocuSign; and
- freehand digital signatures.
Typed signatures are not accepted.
The signed form can be uploaded as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF. Where available, applicants should include the candidate’s Student ID number. Modern Bangor student numbers commonly begin with 500.
Transcripts and official documents
Bangor University’s Awards Office can provide former students with:
- academic transcripts;
- Confirmation of Award documents; and
- replacement certificates for Bangor University awards.
Transcript requests normally take up to 21 days. Older undergraduate records from before 2002 and taught postgraduate records from before 2004 may take longer.
In some cases, a full transcript may no longer be available. Bangor may instead provide a statement confirming the qualification and explaining that it cannot produce a transcript.
Replacement certificates
University of Wales Bangor graduates from 1995 to 2007 normally received University of Wales awards.
Bangor University states that graduates before 1 August 2009 generally received University of Wales degrees. Replacement certificates and Academic Statements for those awards must be requested directly from the University of Wales.
The certificate should be checked before an application is submitted. It may display:
- University of Wales, Bangor;
- University of Wales;
- Bangor University; or
- another awarding body.
The awarding body printed on the certificate determines the correct replacement-document route.
Solicitor verification and certification
A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.
It does not independently prove that the candidate obtained the qualification.
Our enhanced service reviews the academic document against reliable evidence, such as:
- a HEDD verification;
- an official Bangor transcript;
- a University of Wales replacement certificate;
- a Confirmation of Award; or
- another official academic record.
Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.
This creates a stronger evidence chain than a basic certified true copy.
FCDO apostille
After academic verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the underlying degree.
The recommended process is:
academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille
Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option applies to suitable documents once verification and solicitor certification are ready.
The two working days cover the apostille stage only. They exclude:
- HEDD processing;
- university archive searches;
- transcript production;
- replacement certificates;
- courier delivery; and
- embassy legalisation.
Embassy legalisation
Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require additional embassy or consular legalisation.
A typical process is:
solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation
The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, Confirmation of Award, certified translation or supporting identity document.
