Legal Consultant of Ginkgo Advisory
The Warburg Institute is an institute of the School of Advanced Study at the University of London. It offers postgraduate programmes in cultural, intellectual and visual history.
Ginkgo Advisory can arrange direct degree verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and solicitor certification are complete.
Quick answer
Warburg Institute qualifications cannot be verified through HEDD.
Verification must be requested directly from the University of London Academic Awards Office. Degrees and diplomas based on School of Advanced Study programmes are University of London awards.
The usual process is:
University of London verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required
Direct degree verification
Third-party verification requests may be sent to:
The request should normally include:
- the candidate’s name during study;
- date of birth;
- Warburg Institute and School of Advanced Study affiliation;
- course and qualification;
- attendance dates;
- award year;
- grade or classification;
- student number, if known;
- a certificate copy; and
- signed candidate consent.
A formal written request should use the requesting organisation’s headed paper. The candidate’s consent should contain a genuine signature.
Warburg Institute and University of London awards
The Warburg Institute provides programmes including postgraduate certificates, master’s degrees, MPhil and PhD study. The resulting degrees and diplomas are awarded through the University of London to students registered with the School of Advanced Study.
Academic documents may therefore refer to:
- the Warburg Institute;
- School of Advanced Study;
- University of London; or
- a combination of these names.
The University of London remains the awarding institution.
Transcripts and replacement certificates
Former students can request:
- academic transcripts;
- replacement certificates;
- Letters of Certification;
- certified certificate copies; and
- other official academic records.
Requests are managed through the University of London transcript and replacement-certificate service. Third-party student-record confirmation is handled by the Academic Awards Office.
A transcript may show the courses taken, marks achieved and overall classification.
Short courses and non-degree study
The Warburg Institute also provides short courses and occasional study opportunities.
These do not always lead to a University of London degree or diploma. A short-course attendance certificate may therefore need verification directly from the Warburg Institute rather than through the University’s academic awards process.
We check the precise course and document wording before beginning verification.
Solicitor verification and certification
A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.
It does not independently establish that the University awarded the qualification.
Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:
- direct University of London verification;
- an official transcript;
- a Letter of Certification;
- a replacement certificate; or
- another secure academic record.
Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.
FCDO apostille
After verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the academic qualification.
The recommended process is:
academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille
Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.
It excludes:
- University verification;
- transcript production;
- replacement certificates;
- archive searches;
- courier delivery; and
- embassy legalisation.
Embassy legalisation
Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.
A typical process is:
solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation
The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, Letter of Certification, certified translation or supporting identity document.
