Wye College was a recognised UK institution that gave awards between 1898 and 2000. It merged with Imperial College London on 1 August 2000, and Imperial now verifies its historic qualifications.

Ginkgo Advisory can arrange HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille and embassy legalisation. A 2 working day express FCDO apostille option is available after verification and certification are complete.

Quick answer

Wye College qualifications can be verified through HEDD.

The usual route is:

HEDD verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille → embassy legalisation where required

Imperial College London is an exclusive HEDD partner. The current degree enquiry fee is £14.

HEDD degree verification

HEDD can check:

  • current or former student status;
  • the qualification awarded;
  • the grade or classification; and
  • attendance dates.

The candidate must provide a signed consent form as a PDF, JPG, PNG or TIF.

The enquiry should include:

  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year;
  • classification; and
  • student number, where available.

The HEDD service is intended for third-party enquirers, including employers, professional bodies, screening agencies and legal representatives.

Wye College and Imperial College London

Wye College specialised in subjects including agriculture, horticulture, biological sciences, environmental studies, agricultural economics and business management.

Following the 2000 merger, Imperial College London became responsible for verifying Wye College qualifications.

Historic documents may show:

  • Wye College;
  • Imperial College at Wye;
  • University of London;
  • another validating university; or
  • a professional awarding body.

The exact name printed on the certificate should be checked before requesting replacement documents or preparing solicitor certification.

Transcripts and replacement certificates

Many Wye College degrees were conferred by the University of London.

Imperial states that it cannot issue replacement certificates or transcripts for degrees awarded before 2007. A replacement certificate for an older University of London award should normally be requested from the University of London’s Diploma Production Office.

Imperial may still verify the qualification through HEDD. Its alumni document services also include Statement of Award letters and transcripts where the relevant records and document route are available.

The appropriate supporting evidence may therefore include:

  • a HEDD verification;
  • a University of London replacement certificate;
  • an Imperial Statement of Award;
  • an available academic transcript; or
  • another official academic record.

Solicitor verification and certification

A basic solicitor-certified copy confirms that the copy matches the document presented to the solicitor.

It does not independently establish that the candidate obtained the qualification.

Our enhanced service reviews the document against reliable evidence, such as:

  • a HEDD verification;
  • an official Statement of Award;
  • an academic transcript;
  • a University of London replacement certificate; or
  • another awarding-body record.

Where the evidence supports it, our solicitor can provide certification with authenticity confirmation.

FCDO apostille

After academic verification and solicitor certification, the document can proceed to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

An apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal. It does not independently verify the underlying academic qualification.

The recommended process is:

academic verification → enhanced solicitor certification → FCDO apostille

Our 2 working day express FCDO apostille option covers the apostille stage only.

It excludes:

  • HEDD processing;
  • university record searches;
  • transcript production;
  • replacement certificates;
  • courier delivery; and
  • embassy legalisation.

Embassy legalisation

Documents intended for a destination outside the Hague Apostille Convention may require further embassy or consular legalisation.

A typical process is:

solicitor certification → FCDO legalisation → embassy legalisation

The receiving authority may also request an official transcript, Statement of Award, certified translation or identity document.

What to send us

Please provide:

  • a clear certificate scan;
  • any available transcript;
  • the candidate’s name during study;
  • course and qualification;
  • attendance dates;
  • award year and classification;
  • student number, if known;
  • destination country; and
  • the receiving authority’s requirements.

We will identify whether the correct route involves HEDD, Imperial College London, the University of London or another awarding body.

Frequently asked questions

Who verifies Wye College qualifications?

Imperial College London verifies Wye College qualifications through HEDD.

How much does HEDD verification cost?

The current degree enquiry fee is £14.

Can former students obtain a replacement certificate?

Usually, an older Wye College degree certificate must be replaced by the University of London because Imperial cannot issue replacement certificates for pre-2007 awards.

Can Imperial provide a transcript?

Transcript availability depends on the records and award route. Imperial’s alumni Student Records service should be consulted for the individual case.

Does an apostille verify the qualification?

No. HEDD or the relevant university verifies the academic record. The apostille authenticates the relevant UK signature, stamp or seal.

Can Ginkgo Advisory manage the complete process?

Yes. We can coordinate HEDD verification, enhanced solicitor certification, FCDO apostille, embassy legalisation and return delivery.
